Get to know Oulu by foot! Near the conference venue there is lot to see, all in walking distance. Below you can find tips what to see while visiting Oulu. Map of the conference venue area you can find here.
The walk from the Hotel Lasaretti to the monumental center of the Oulu City with the Cathedral and its garden, governmental buildings and the old Oulu Lyceum building is about 900 meters, which usually takes about 10 minutes. However, the route goes through the spectacular Ainola Park, where one finds new beautiful views about every step of the way and thus the walk may take more time. The City center begins basically right after the monumental center.
Ainola Park is part of the Hupisaaret area, which is formed by a series of islands at the mouth of the Oulujoki river. The area is often called as the living room of the Oulu inhabitants and it is open for all. The park contains e.g. the Northern Ostrobothnia Museum, playground for kids, nice cafe and lots of places to stop and enjoy the views or enjoy a picnic. The park is also called as the area of white bridges – and for a reason. - Nice to know: Last summer, after restoration of the water areas in the park, different sizes of trout were planted in the brooks and streams of the park. After that, some spawning activities were observed in the autumn and in winter time also hatched young fish have been observed.
